Living in Manitoba (one of the coldest places on earth…just Google it!) we have to survive by layering our outfits while trying to slay at the same time! I have the pleasure of working with my dear friend, Kristen Maslyk who runs mazzzy.com. We share very similar style interests and you can find us talking about the latest fashion trends and always wanting Acne Studios! We collaborated on a blog post to showcase some of our fav pieces this season to wear. We may have froze our toes off during this shoot, but so WORTH IT!
RY’S LOOK: I love to layer my outfits with classic pieces combined with a bold accessory whether that be a scarf, men’s pouch, shoe, etc. The Club Monaco Essential Sweatshirt (SOLD OUT) is a classic crew sweater bringing back the old vintage Club crest. I’m sure some of you can remember when these were very popular and now they can hardly keep them on the shelves. Another great layering piece is the Club Monaco Herringbone Topcoat with its classic cut and professional look. The detailing on the collar with the grey lining underneath makes a dapper statement for every guy who wears it.
Kristen and myself are busy students running around from work to classes, so we like to combine our looks with statement bags. My everyday bag I carry is the Coach Campus Backpack (SOLD OUT) which has several pockets and laptop sleeve to take my laptop wherever I go. The calf leather finish is smooth and comfortable to carry around. SHOP THE LOOK BELOW!

KRISTEN’S LOOK: One item I find to be a key essential in my closet is a statement knit (something I personally can’t get enough of). This can be anything from a ruffle on the sleeve to a pop of colour. When I do a detailed sleeve, I find it best to keep the base of the sweater rather basic so I don’t overwhelm the rest of my outfit. Lately, I find myself reaching for this statement knit over all my other ones. The muted shade of this periwinkle sweater gives it a unique colour change up from my usual black I find myself in. While still keeping it a rather basic, easy-to-wear colour. The tassel detailing on the sleeve is where this sweater gets interesting.
Keeping it casual in my favourite pair of denim with a leather jacket slouched over my shoulders. This keeps the whole look from becoming too girly; seeing as the knit has rather a feminine touch. I sized up in this leather jacket to give it an oversized, unstructured look. I love having two leather jackets that are completely different styles to each other. One structured, and the other slouchy; both create unique outfits.
These denim have become an essential in my collection. I am one to think you can never have too many pairs of jeans. This pair of Levi’s has a high rise and a straight leg, making them different to my other everyday skinny denim that I often reach for. Nothing too crazy about them however which keeps them cycling through my outfits.
Now that we have all my favourite essentials listed, it’s time to add in a little trend. Continuing with the edgier look, I grabbed my all-time favourite mini-backpack. Yes, this item really is a trend piece; when Louis Vuitton released their mini monogram backpacks then every other brand jumped on the bandwagon and created their own spinoff. However, it has become an essential in my wardrobe, as you can tell how much I use it (it’s really getting out of hand). I think it will stay in my closet, even if/when the trend passes.
Lastly, thanks to our dear friend, Emily Hart for taking the pics and bracing the cold with us!
