TRAVEL DIARY: ABU DHABI

TRAVEL DIARY: ABU DHABI

With my recent visit to Dubai, I also decided to take a two hour drive to Abu Dhabi, which is another emirate in the UAE. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and is most known for the vast Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The iconic landmark is known to have 82 white domes, 24 carat gold chandeliers and the world’s largest hand knotted carpet. Before going, it is important to ensure that you are completely covered wearing jeans or pants for men and women must be covered as well in an Abaya “cloak” (they also provide them as well).

We also checked out the Louvre in Abu Dhabi. The museum just opened in November 2017 in which there is an agreement between the City of Abu Dhabi and the French government to present both ancient and modern artwork from around the world. You will not find the Mona Lisa there unfortunately but they do have the works of Michelangelo and Van Gogh.  The museum is simply unique in its architecture and design with it being located completely surrounded by water. It was well worth the visit to Abu Dhabi!

For some shopping time, you can visit the Galleria in the city centre to find some unique designer pieces.
